Fragile Dreams is set in a post-apocalyptic world that's only apocalyptic because people thought, hey, let's connect all minds on earth so there's no more fights! Everyone will be empathetic to each other. No wars will ever happen again. This can't go wrong, it's fine. So they tried to do that, and it wasn't fine, and over the course of a day a majority of humanity fell asleep and never woke up again. Great, no one saw that coming. Maybe people should listen to the guy with a tinfoil hat more often. Flashfoward to the game.
Humanity has, seemingly, been completely wiped out save for a boy named Seto who starts a journey to find other survivors after his guardian's death. On this journey, he happens upon a silver haired girl named Ren. Over the course of the game, he spends his time searching for her. Seriously, the whole game. That's 15+ hours of dedication my friends.
When they first meet, Ren is on a fallen pillar and singing a made up tune to the moon. After all, she's completely alone or so she thinks. When Seto appears and startles her, she falls off and passes out for a short time. He runs over to her, at first mistaking her for being dead and touches her face to check for signs of life. That's when she abruptly opens her eyes, says "you touched me" and runs off into an abandoned subway station.
Seto immediately chases after her, but she's no where to be seen. The only trail she leaves behind are strange doodles that only he seems to be able to decipher as hers. This is a great feat in and of itself, since he lives in a world covered with old graffiti. She doesn't appear again until much later in the sewer systems under Tokyo. In there, she is completely surrounded by cats and looking out through a fenced off area. They converse for the first time through it.
A cat he had befriended earlier rubs against him and Ren smiles, realizing that this person can be trusted. Seto apologizes for touching her and he tells her his name. They share a laugh and all seems well. She's about to give her own name when a voice comes on the overhead, startling them both. The man tells Ren to return and she runs off quickly to a stairway behind her. She seems to know her way around this place very well.
Their third meeting is on top of a dam, where Ren is behind looking behind a glass door. She tries to talk to him through it, but her voice is very quiet. She can't seem to reach him. Seto's just in time to press his hands against the door to try and hear what she's saying. It does no good and she's slowly lowered back down. Turns out the glass door was actually an elevator. Exciting stuff.The next time he sees her is when she's inside a pod-like tube. She may have some knowledge of technology, as she looks straight to the camera and mouths 'help me'.
After many traps, shenanigans, explanations and battles, Seto makes it to the room where Ren is, but she’s not alone. A spooky ghost man named Shin, who happens to be Ren's defacto 'guardian', is irritated and now out to kill him. They fight and Seto is victorious. Unfortunately, a lot of time was wasted during the brawl and Shin takes a blue stone out of the machine, escaping from the laboratory seconds later. The Glass Cage Project is still alive; he just no longer needs her. After all this time Seto finally rescues her. Yay, almost to a happy ending!
Their final battle takes place on Tokyo Tower. It's where Shin escaped to earlier. He tells Ren to stay behind and asks Sai to look after her. Despite his wish, Ren eventually goes up the stairs to see what's going on, only to find Seto and Shin conversing after their drawn out fight. Shin is finally telling his story, including the reasons he wanted to reinstate the Glass Cage project. It turns out he's just a lonely goober too, like the rest of them. Sai, the nice spooky ghost that travels with Seto, tells him she loves him and he decides not to go through with glass cage anymore or kill the rest of humanity. The ghosts disappear and Seto and Ren are left alone with the implication that they start traveling the world together.
The manga epilogue delves into more details about her back story, what they do after and she had done before. No one has summarized this in a wiki link yet so bear with my modfriends, it's just a bit more.

It's one that speaks their language. They "play" with him awhile, name him Shiro and he requests they take him to Tokyo Tower. Ren is extremely adverse to going and says Shiro will have to go alone at first. She doesn't want to go anywhere near a place that caused her so much grief. As they continue on, Ren seems to have a change of heart after listening to a voice on a cell phone answering machine. When Seto says they should take Shiro to Tokyo Tower, she no longer disagrees.
It becomes readily apparent that Ren's been in the care of doctors/scientists for a long time. Many people have died, including the other children she was 'born' with. The medicine she takes daily seems to have something to do with it. If she doesn't take it, she won't wake up, or that's what the adults said to her. Ren assures Seto that it's nothing more than a rumor and it won't actually happen. After losing her pills, she says she's fine and they decide to go on without worrying about it.
After a conversation, Shiro goes missing and she decides to look for him being the crazy cat person she is. Fortunately, she finds him, but they end up meeting some angry dogs in the process. The ensuing chaos causes her to lose the pills as she throws her entire bag to help them escape safely. She makes it back to Seto with cat in tow and continues to say it's alright she doesn't have the pills, even as her state rapidly degenerates. Just a few days after the incident with the dogs, she grows weaker, is unable to walk for long periods of time and passes out. Seto decides they need to go back to where she lived and get more of those pills. So reluctantly, Ren agrees and they head on to the tower with another reason to search it.
When they make it inside the lab again, Shiro starts having memory backlash and it turns out, he's the reincarnation/incarnation/whatever of Shin, the antagonist from the game. Ren can feel his strong memories and starts panicking, but Seto asks to feel them with her, so instead of running she stays there to try to help him because even if it's essentially Shin, Shiro the cat is her friend.
Shin's memories run through their minds, it's a violent jarring experience for them, and when Shiro/Shin gets himself together, he explains that the cat as originally an AI for the lab kids. It's a sobering realization to suddenly learn about himself and for the kids to learn about Shin's inner feelings. After the ordeal, they stop to rest in the lab before looking for her medicine again. However, in the middle of the night, Ren leaves them behind without a word. Because why not right? It's a post apocalyptic world. Running off is cool too.

Shiro tells Seto that Ren knew she was going to die for awhile, with or without the medicine, because she had seen the other children die of similar causes. She can't stand to see him sad, so even when he retorts by saying he still wanted to be with her, she starts crying and runs away again. He apologizes for upsetting her, but Ren doesn't want to hear it. He catches up, but hooligan Ren is too busy leaning against broken fencing and nearly falls to her death. Fortunately for her, he catches her before then.
After being rescued, her mind changes yet again. Likely because that was a near death experience and getting a hug from him reminded her of the warmth of people. Seeing how sad he was had more to do with it as well. She says that she wants to go with Seto on a journey to find more people so that he won't be lonely. As they're about to leave, Shiro drops off some of the medicine Ren needs and says he'll be staying behind. They contently say their goodbyes and start off on their nomad adventures again!

However because of her experiences with Seto, it will be easier for her to be around others. There's a spot in her mind now that realizes human contact to lead to wonderful things. So while she may initially be scared of others, it doesn't take her long to warm up to people if they show her even a small amount of kindness. Adults will take more time than kids her age, who she will find it easier to connect with thanks to Seto.
She's very childish despite her age, she will sing made up songs to herself, dance in circle and find worlds of amusement in the simplest things, like a single marble. She also has a habit of defacing property by drawing on the walls, floors or any inch of free space imaginable. Her pictures, and attention span, are comparable to a child's own. She will run off if something interests her and concentrate on that up until something else catches her attention. Toys, clothes, shiny objects are all things that would distract her for some time. Much like a child as well, she can get extremely frustrated with situations. Instead of trying to work it out, she simply runs off. In serious situations, she will try to vanish to get away from it all or stay behind if the situation is too dangerous. There are moments where she displays bravado, like when she grabs Shiro in the manga to protect him from dogs, when travels back to Tokyo Tower and when she visits dangerous ghost infested areas anyway, just to explore.
The game doesn't offer many clues to her inner thoughts, but it's also shown that she feels lonely. She'll sit alone watching the scenery by herself or sing songs about the lonely stars and moon. It's likely she resigned herself to her fate at the beginning of the game, but after realizing it can get better, wants more for her life than being a test subject. Shin being her defacto guardian means she listens to him and goes along with his plan, but once he's gone and she's free, her adventurous and fun spirit begins to show through.

It's likely she accepted the fact people were dead, or if they weren't, too far away to contact up until she meets Seto. After years of prodding, poking and experiments it's easy to see why. She has an aversion to hospitals and labs as well.
It's unknown how much of her life was spent inside, how long those experiments for Glass Cage went on for or even how old she is, but she's young.Everything is brand new to her. She never went to school and her knowledge about anything is very basic. Time and time again, she seems to know a little bit about technology due to the experiments on her. She managed to get to the answering machine on a mobile phone and spoke into a camera during the game. She's also self sufficient in regards to basic care-acquiring food/water, finding shelter and generally keeping herself alive.

Fear consumed her every waking thought. She used to be afraid of everything-whether it was a person, an item, a weird shadow, or the trees rustling. She used to hate anything odd, or what seemed as odd, from her perspective. She would refuse to go outside her comfort zone and spend every moment she could looking for places to hide to avoid interacting with any potential problems. Her default mode was to go into flight mode and just disappear until the issue resolved itself. Her first instinct was always protect herself, or other kids, and never deal with the consequences. Close CR over the years have helped her not only get over that hurdle, but embrace different situations. She approaches most people without fear, regardless of how they act or their age. Doctors and scientists are still iffy, though she's far more likely to see the person beyond the occupation, instead of judging them immediately. There have been many times she's demonstrated her newfound bravery: going with Ichimatsu to look for Pachinko in monster infested woods and getting through the Trial of Bravery alive, among other, smaller situations in her day to day life.
One of the biggest changes was her ability to trust and telling others about her biggest secret. Her sickness, an issue she spent years hiding because her fear of rejection made it too difficult to confront. Meeting the grim reaper Kravitz, and her subsequent familial relationship and friendship with him, was a blessing. He was the first person she spoke to about that fear. She admitted it to him after the trial of bravery and after her death due to the flower disease from Umui's initial appearance. That place killed her because she refused to talk about her issues and fears and while she's still hesitant with strangers, she's far more likely to admit her problems to those she has a strong bond with, and do so without fear of repercussion.
She almost tends to be a bit careless now after living in relative comfort for years and under the protection of so many powerful people. She still doesn't quite understand the value of her own life, so she's still prone to self-sacrifice and self-esteem issues because she's still going to die. Nothing has changed there. Whether she admits it or not doesn't change that fact. She's going to die-it doesn't particularly matter what happens to her and that's almost gotten worse. Her friends and family are her entire world and she would do anything to keep them safe, happy and content. She trusts almost too freely. She's spent a lot of the game learning about what it means to be loved and have a family-a feeling she cherishes and wants to share with others. She absolutely adores having that connection and it no longer scares her to develop that strong of a bond with people. This was most notable with Guzma, Ichimatsu, Tim, Chara, Kravitz, Taako and Lup, the latter three being the family she lived with for years.
Living with Taako and Lup did facilitate some bad behaviors-she doesn't mind stealing and sees no issue with it, though she's likely to leave her friend's 'special treasures' alone. She also has a respect for the Gods that didn't exist prior because the Storyteller has been so kind to her. She enjoys approaching them and usually does so without fear. She's also gained some life skills re: basic cooking from Taako, learning some sign language from Drifter, learning to read music and play the flute from Tim, grass whistling with Ichimatsu, etc.

She's a normal human in ever sense of the word, though she has the power to see spirits and has a weird ability to be friends with all cats somehow. The manga shows she has a similar empathetic as Seto too. When she picks up Shiro the cat, she can sense his strong feelings and memories when she holds him. In the middle of the night, her and Seto share the same exact dream of playing in a school and wake up at the same time. As is the case with games sometimes, it's never fully explained. Judging from the little canon details we get, I'm playing her as she can feel emotions from others if they're very, very strong and if she has a solid CR connection with them.
Inventory: Her original inventory sans Ichimatsu's cat ESP kitty, who has since found a new home. Kravitz kept her bag while she was gone.

Doctors and scientists are still iffy, though she's far more likely to see the person beyond the occupation, instead of judging them immediately. There have been many times she's demonstrated her newfound bravery: going with Ichimatsu to look for Pachinko in monster infested woods and getting through the Trial of Bravery alive, among other, smaller situations in her day to day life.
One of the biggest changes was her ability to trust and telling others about her biggest secret. Her sickness, an issue she spent years hiding because her fear of rejection made it too difficult to confront. Meeting the grim reaper Kravitz, and her subsequent familial relationship and friendship with him, was a blessing. He was the first person she spoke to about that fear. She admitted it to him after the trial of bravery and after her death due to the flower disease from Umui's initial appearance. That place killed her because she refused to talk about her issues and fears and while she's still hesitant with strangers, she's far more likely to admit her problems to those she has a strong bond with, and do so without fear of repercussion.
She almost tends to be a bit careless now after living in relative comfort for years and under the protection of so many powerful people. She still doesn't quite understand the value of her own life, so she's still prone to self-sacrifice and self-esteem issues because she's still going to die. Nothing has changed there. Whether she admits it or not doesn't change that fact. She's going to die-it doesn't particularly matter what happens to her and that's almost gotten worse. Her friends and family are her entire world and she would do anything to keep them safe, happy and content. She trusts almost too freely. She's spent a lot of the game learning about what it means to be loved and have a family-a feeling she cherishes and wants to share with others. She absolutely adores having that connection and it no longer scares her to develop that strong of a bond with people. This was most notable with Guzma, Ichimatsu, Tim, Chara, Kravitz, Taako and Lup, the latter three being the family she lived with for years.
Living with Taako and Lup did facilitate some bad behaviors-she doesn't mind stealing and sees no issue with it, though she's likely to leave her friend's 'special treasures' alone. She also has a respect for the Gods that didn't exist prior because the Storyteller has been so kind to her. She enjoys approaching them and usually does so without fear. She's also gained some life skills re: basic cooking from Taako, learning some sign language from Drifter, learning to read music and play the flute from Tim, grass whistling with Ichimatsu, etc.

She's a normal human in ever sense of the word, though she has the power to see spirits and has a weird ability to be friends with all cats somehow. The manga shows she has a similar empathetic as Seto too. When she picks up Shiro the cat, she can sense his strong feelings and memories when she holds him. In the middle of the night, her and Seto share the same exact dream of playing in a school and wake up at the same time. As is the case with games sometimes, it's never fully explained. Judging from the little canon details we get, I'm playing her as she can feel emotions from others if they're very, very strong and if she has a solid CR connection with them.
Inventory: Her original inventory sans Ichimatsu's cat ESP kitty, who has since found a new home. Kravitz kept her bag while she was gone.
