[The nice thing about raccoon children with no valuable skills to offer is they have free time out the wazoo. And this particular gremlin likes to spend her days visiting choice homes to doodle on. Nice.
And guess what? The next lucky home on her heathen to-do list happens to belong to Guzma and when she sees him outside the home, she quickens her pace to meet him there. Sup guy!!]
[Crud, she's here, and Guzma's nearly tempted to throw himself back inside to avoid the confrontation he has to get over with. He nearly fumbles with the little wrapped bundle and shoved it deep into his pocket before Ren has a chance to get too close to him. Why does this have to be so hard to do? He's not the emotional or sentimental type (only he really, really is), and giving gifts is...tough. For him, anyway.
Especially one that means a lot to give.
He huffs, a bit red in the face and breathes out when Ren finally comes up to him, fiddling with the gift he has in his pocket...none too subtly.]
Y-Yo...hey there, angel. How you doing? [WOW, LAME. WHY DONT YOU ASK HER ABOUT THE FREAKING WEATHER, TOO??]
[THE WEATHER'S GREAT IT'S PERFECT FOR GRAFFITI THANKS FOR ASKING
Her eyes nyoom in on his pocket and then up to his face and-]
I'm happy.
[-back to his pocket. Because what's happening here?? It's been a valuable experience to learn about the different reactions people have over the last few months, but they're still weird sometimes. Seto didn't fidget like this. And cats don't have pockets, so she can't rely on her knowledge of that.
[Happy, huh? That's really cute, and he's glad, given the tiny flicker of a smile blooming at the corners of his lips. Hopefully he doesn't blow it, and can make Ren even happier today. She tends to like trinkets like this, and she's the only one who really understands the weight of what he's going to give her, what he's more or less asking her. Guzma opens his mouth, blinks, then responds almost automatically--]
Huh? No, there aren't any cool bugs here at all. [Wait--] Uh, I mean...! No. It's not--ugh. Here. I was gonna deliver this to you, but I don't know where y'all live, and I didn't want no one snatching it if I left it lying 'round.
[It's a leafy little bundle, wrapped almost like a gift, with string woven from coconut fibers to tie it together. It's pretty crude, but nice enough for a guy like Guzma to throw together. He chews his lower lip, still pretty red in the face.] One stipulation though, 'fore anything...
You don't open it until y'get back home. That's the deal.
[Gifts are new. They didn't hand out presents wrapped in coconut leaves in her world. There wasn't a bunny that could find pretty treasures for you or a need to dole out the items you found. Hoarding was commonplace and Seto and her shared of out of necessity-there were still things she kept to herself, like rubber ducks and pieces of broken glass.
People like Guzma, though, find reason to hand her pretty things without warning. She doesn't take it-doesn't reach for it just yet, but her eyes light up, her expression brightens considerably and she attempts to look at the gift from all angles in his hand to discern what could be inside. She even kneels down to look from below, as if she has somehow gained the power to see through hands. She can't. That was a terrible idea. Oh well.]
I won't open it. What is it?
[Defeating the purpose, she is. Ask too many questions, she will.]
[Guzma's scowl isn't quite as irate as it would be. In fact, when he straightens a bit with a wrinkle to his nose, his mouth is screwed up into a rather crooked smile - like he can't pick between his emotions. She really is just like a little kid...trying to weasel out the answers from him before being patient and waiting to open it. Honestly, are all kids like thi--yes. Yes, they are. His grunts were all like this, especially the younger teens. They couldn't wait for anything.]
For real? Kid, I'm not gonna tell you what it is! That'd ruin the surprise, yeah? You gotta wait until you're back home to open it, but...uh. I'll at least tell you it's a treasure. [I mean, not really... Any other person would call it garbage, it's as invaluable here as a dry stick is, but it is important to Guzma. It's something very special to him, and giving it away means more than the item itself, in fact.] So keep it safe, once y'do open it, a'ight?
[Her hunch was right. That's expected from a man who understands the importance of treasure like she does. She continues to eye the present and then finally takes it between her grubby little hands. Self-control is an incredible thing, really, because all she does is rub the tips of her fingers against the coconut wrapping-those sorta look like treasures too.
Don't tear this she tells herself. Because Guzma wrapped this special gift with nice leaves and she needs to keep those safe.
And then comes the hard part-a difficult decision needs to be made. Does she go back now? Does she stay here with him for awhile? She wants to both and apparently that can't happen.]
I'll keep this special treasure safe. It's a gift from Guzma so it's important.
[Ahah...she's a smart cookie, isn't she? Guzma lifts a brow and leans back, straightening himself up to his full height and he hooks his thumbs on the belt loops of his dark pants. She's itching to see what the thing is, but she also wants to be there to thank him. Arceus, this kid is going to give him a headache... But he'll at least humor her a little bit. Nodding a little, he looks back toward his and Luna's shack, more importantly their stove.]
Yeah, probably... Gotta stock up on wood for the stove, and get some stuff to eat, too. And grab more water. [He's uh...he's been borrowing Bludroc eggs from others' stores on the islands, when they're not there to monitor them. Once a thief, always a thief, but..best not to waste them, right? And he only ever takes three or four at a time.]
You come back 'round here, and I'll whip up something for you if you're hungry.
She makes a mental note to look for good sticks on her way back to camp. On her way, because while she'll leave the immediate vicinity as he requested, she plans on stopping somewhere near the Storyteller's temple. Maybe a bit outside of it, by that nice rock she knows will shield her from any prying eyes while she opens this treasure.
This is a good!! excellent!! plan!! And she's feeling confident in it.]
I'll come back very soon.
[This whole time, she's been touching the leaves with her fingertips, and it's only now that she stops to grip the item tight in her hands. Her eyes are going to be on this awesome thing the whole way back.]
You don't need to find wood. I can get that kind of thing for you. That's something I'm good at.
